Meet the team behind Total Off Grid

Hi! We’re Kate and Rich, the duo behind Total Off Grid. Since April 2023, we’ve been living full-time on the road with our dogs, and what started as a personal adventure has grown into a business we love and live by.

 

From Vanlife to Lorry Life

Our journey began in a self-converted Vauxhall Movano, which we called home from April 2023. It was cosy, but before long we’d outgrown it (with three dogs and us!). So in August 2023, we took on the challenge of converting a DAF LF45.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

That lorry gave us a fantastic year of travel and living, but in true off-grid fashion, life threw us a curveball; the DAF’s engine gave up in summer 2024. We had two choices: replace the engine and scramble to find somewhere to live in the meantime, or take the plunge and build something new. We chose the latter. Enter our current home: a MAN TGL 8.180, which we started converting in September 2024. It’s been a wild ride, but we wouldn’t change it for the world.

 

Growing Total Off Grid

What started as an idea has grown faster than we ever imagined. We’ve met so many amazing people in the vanlife, lorrylife and, off-grid communities. Helping others power their dream homes on wheels has become something we’re genuinely passionate about.

We don’t just sell gear, we live this lifestyle every single day. That means we know the joys, the challenges, and the “why won’t this thing work?!” moments that come with living off-grid. Our goal with Total Off Grid is simple: to share that knowledge, offer products we know and trust, and support others on their journey to freedom, adventure, and self-sufficiency.

So that’s us in a nutshell, two people, three dogs, three vans (so far!), and one big dream: helping others live life totally off grid.
